What Is Scan Cleanup and When Do You Need It?
When you scan a physical document — a receipt, a contract, a handwritten note, an old invoice — the result is often less than ideal. The background comes out grey instead of white. The text looks faded or washed out. Fine print is blurry. The scan looks like a scan rather than a clean document.
Scan Cleanup fixes these issues entirely in your browser. You load a scanned PDF or image, adjust the settings, and download a cleaner version — no server upload, no account, no software to install.
Grey background removal
Home scanners often produce an off-white or grey background. The Remove Grey Background toggle pushes near-white pixels to pure white, making the document look clean and professional.
Faded text enhancement
Old documents, carbon copies, and fax printouts often have faint, faded text. Boosting contrast and brightness makes the text darker and easier to read — and easier for OCR to process accurately.
Black & white binarisation
The Threshold mode converts every pixel to either pure black or pure white. This produces the cleanest possible text documents and significantly reduces file size — ideal for typed contracts, forms, and invoices.
Receipt & small-print cleanup
Thermal receipts fade quickly and scan poorly. The Receipt preset boosts brightness and contrast aggressively to recover faded thermal print — useful for expense claims and bookkeeping records.
