Watermarks serve as visible document markers — signalling that a document is confidential, a draft, a sample, or an internal copy. They appear on every page, making the marking clear to any reader. Common uses include marking reports as DRAFT, flagging copies as CONFIDENTIAL, adding a company logo as a background element, or marking documents with the recipient name to trace unauthorised distribution.
Processing happens entirely in your browser. Your PDF is never uploaded to any external server.
Opacity. 15–25% is right for most document watermarks — clearly visible but not obscuring content. Confidential marks can go to 30%. Brand logos and subtle background elements work best at 8–12%.
Position. Diagonal centre is standard for CONFIDENTIAL and DRAFT marks — this placement is hardest to overlook or crop out. Centre horizontal works for formal stamps (APPROVED, VOID, COPY). Footer position is appropriate for document reference numbers or version labels applied to all pages.
Font size. For diagonal watermarks on standard A4 pages, 60–80pt is typically visible without dominating the content. Adjust based on the length of your watermark text — shorter words like DRAFT can be larger; longer phrases like CONFIDENTIAL — DO NOT DISTRIBUTE need to be smaller to fit diagonally.
Colour. Red is conventional for CONFIDENTIAL and VOID marks. Grey is appropriate for DRAFT. Blue or navy for SAMPLE. Use your brand colour for logo-style watermarks. High contrast with the page background increases visibility; low contrast creates a subtler effect.
Can watermarks be removed from a PDF?
Watermarks added as a content layer on top of the PDF can be removed by someone with the right tools (PDF editors that can select and delete objects). They function as a visible deterrent and signal, not a security guarantee. For genuine access control, use the Protect PDF tool in addition to watermarking.
Does the watermark appear on every page?
Yes. The watermark is applied to all pages of the document. This prevents recipients from removing the cover page and presenting subsequent pages as unmarked originals.
Will the watermark print when the document is printed?
Yes. The watermark is embedded in the PDF page content and prints exactly as it appears on screen. Unlike some watermarking systems that add screen-only overlays, this produces a printed watermark on every physical copy.
Can I add an image watermark instead of text?
For image-based watermarks such as company logos, use the PDF editor at rifix.xyz/edit — add your logo as an image layer on each page with reduced opacity to create a visual watermark effect.
Is my document uploaded when adding a watermark?
No. The watermark is applied entirely in your browser. Your document never leaves your device.

If the watermark was added as a text or image layer (not baked into the original scan), the Rifix editor may allow you to select and delete it. Baked-in watermarks from original scans cannot be removed.
